Back Story
Before we gave International Discipleship Literature any real structure or anything even resembling it, I was sitting alone one day pondering the guiding verse upon which we should build IDL. I began flipping through the Bible and Isaiah 58:11 & 12 just about jumped off the page. “Thou shalt be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in…” I said to myself, “That’s it, I want to heal broken lives and families and help people get back on track whose lives have gone off the rails.” Immediately, I consulted only with the LORD concerning this and did not say a word to anyone about that, not even Pat – that was a Friday evening.
The next day (a Saturday) I was home from work when the postman knocked on the door and handed me a package. Without saying a word to us about it, our partner, Charles Alfred, from Crockett, TX (2 hours away) had chosen the same verse, put it on parchment with a beautiful computer generated font, framed it in a very nice wood frame and sent it to us. I keep it hanging on our bedroom wall. The only sensible explanation is that the LORD showed that verse to Charles and, a few days later, led me to it. We put it across the bottom of our mission stationery and any other place we can find to display it.
